Bei der Struktur einer Textanalyse gibt es klare Richtlinien, an die sich zu halten sind.
Hier bekommt ihr eine Überblick anhand des Textes "Not Yet the End" darüber.
Analysis
|
» One: Genre
Once again, list all the points you can find that set this story in the science fiction genre.

» Two: Tone
In the last three paragraphs of the story there is a sudden change in tone. This is expressed in the style (partly in the vocabulary, partly in the dialogue), and in the setting (the location of the final action).
What is the setting of the last section? How, exactly, is the speech level different from that of the rest of the story? What purpose does this change in style and setting have? |

» Three: Characterization
"Not Yet the End" partly gains its effect through the characterization of the Aliens. This characterization is achieved in three main ways:
» Through description. This includes description of the appearance of the Xandorans, and of their actions.
» By specific comments on the creatures' character.
» Through the style of the Aliens' speech.
Find all the examples you can of each of these methods, and write them down or mark them in the book. Do you think the author fails to support this characterization anywhere?

» Four: The punch-line
The point of a short story is often hammered home in the last line. Sometimes this final point - or punch-line - comes as no surprise.

» Five: Writer's attitude
The message or point of any story is, of course, one expression of the writer's attitude to what he has described there. Using the information you have already collected on the tone-change in the final section, and on the characterization of teh Aliens, discuss what Brown's attitude is to both the Xandorans and mankind, and to the way they act.
